ARTWORK

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS about submitting artwork to Uni-Serv ...

How is art created?     All final art for print production is created digitally on PC compatible computers in the art department at Uni-Serv Advertising, Inc.  We can use your art in camera ready form (see below) or as a digital file.  We can also produce complete art for you at an additional charge.

What is "camera ready" art?     To be considered camera ready, art must be received as black ink on white paper.  Any art using color ink or paper will need additional work and will not be considered camera ready.  The edges of type and graphics must be crisp.  Any art with ragged edges, unclear graphics or type, or art requiring substantial enlargement to fit a product will not be considered as camera ready.  Incomplete art needing typesetting or additions to a graphic image will also not be considered as camera ready.  Camera read means that we can scan that art into a workable digital file with a minimum of manipulation.  If art doesn't qualify as camera ready, an art charge may be added.   You will always be notified of any additional charge before work is begun.   Since poor art is the major cause of delays in production, it benefits you to submit the best art possible.

How are digital files received?     We use PC compatible computers and prefer receiving art on PC formatted discs.  We can read disks which are Macintosh formatted, but this is not always successful.  All Mac files must have a PC extension added to them.  Examples would be - .tif for a TIFF file, .ai for an Illustrator file, .eps for an EPS file, etc.  We can accept files on a floppy disk, Zip disk, CD disk, or by email.  Bitmap TIFF files should be at 1200 dpi at final size.  Four-color digital scans should be at 300 dpi at final size.   Files prepared at 72 dpi screen resolutions for use on the Internet WILL NOT REPRODUCE CORRECTLY.  If you compress your file, use the zip format for use with Win Zip.  Bitmap TIFFs should be at 600 dpi or greater at final size.  Grayscales should be no less than 30% and greater than 70%.  All grayscale blends are not recommended.

What file formats are acceptable?     All of our final art is produced in CorelDraw 9.  We prefer this format for files we receive from you.  ALSO NOTE: please convert text to curves.  In addition, we can accept TIFF images easily, although they should be saved as PC format.  Adobe Illustrator 8 files are acceptable if they are saved as a PC file, if they have all text converted to curves or outlines, and if any images, such as TIFF or EPS, which are placed in the Illustrator file, are sent with it.  Your best choice is to export your work as a generic EPS or TIFF file.  Art files created for the Internet are not compatible with our print method.

How is email handled?     Our email address is sales@uniservinc.com    Attach your digital art file to an email explaining clearly what type of file it is and which of your orders it belongs with.  For Mac users, please add PC extensions to your file or we may have no idea what type of files they are.  Email is checked periodically every day of the work week.  It is not checked on weekends.   The more information you give us about your attached file the less delay there will be in the production of your job.

Thank you for using Uni-Serv Advertising Inc.  It is our goal to help you understand how to best work with our art department in creating a successful, attractive print job.
